Parameterizing of Flourishing In the game “Sky: children of the light”

Compassion 2.0 Research and thatgamecompany are working together to research the flourishing parameters in SKY

Sky: Children of the Light is a video game that has been praised for its heartwarming and compassionate gameplay.

The game is set in a world where players navigate through a series of beautiful landscapes, solving puzzles and collecting light. One of the unique aspects of Sky is its emphasis on social interaction, as players can meet and help each other throughout the game. This cooperative gameplay fosters a sense of empathy and compassion among players, as they work together to overcome challenges and explore the world. The game also features a number of touching moments that highlight the importance of kindness and understanding. For example, players can help lost spirits find their way home, and they can also offer comfort to other players who are feeling sad or alone. Sky: Children of the Light is a game that celebrates the power of empathy and compassion, and it offers players a unique and meaningful experience.

Sky:COTL has been reported to have more than 5m monthly players, with one recent event in the game having more than 1m concurrent players. These numbers make it one of the largest communities that has been designed with pro-sociality as its overarching design principle.

Compassion 2.0 is working with thatgamecompany to explore the parameters of flourishing in the design and architecture of the game.

C2 is working with leading researchers in neuroscience, behavior science and economics to deeply understand and parameterize the underlying elements in the game. We call these the “Parameters of Flourishing”. We aim to identify these parameters and measure them.
